Emediation
Emediation offers an alternative to both face to face mediation and mediation by video conference. Emediation works by taking the joint sessions and private sessions of traditional mediation and putting them on line in the form of secure joint and private chat rooms. Chat with your mediator in complete confidence, or discuss the case with your opponent in a chat room moderated by a mediator.
Emediation not only saves the parties the time and expense of travelling to a conventional mediation, it even saves the parties the trouble of agreeing on a date and time for the mediation. Posts are made in each party's private or joint chat rooms at a time and pace that suits them, enabling the parties to fit the mediation round the rest of their busy lives.
As such, emediation is particularly suited to cases where the value in issue or the distance between the parties makes getting everyone together in the same place disproportionate but also where busy schedules or time differences prevent a mediation by video conference. We usually find that an emediation completes in about three weeks.
We use Skype to provide the on line chat rooms, simply because it is the most widely used platform in the world for on line conversations. It's password protected, and pre installed on many computers. If you don't have Skype on your computer, you can download it free here. Don't worry about the fee paying options, the free Skype is all you'll need.
An emediation is charged at the same rate as a half day mediation; see our fees. Once you've agreed on an emediation, simply drop an email to info@mediation1st.co.uk, or phone 01603 281128 and request an emediation with your chosen mediator. We'll send out the mediation agreement in the usual way, and you can let your chosen mediator have any reading in advance, and once everyone has signed up and paid the fee, the emediaiton will start.
That's all there is to it. It really is mediation reduced to its bare essentials, and the beauty of it is....it can work just as well as other forms of mediation!
